🎲 epic session of Legend of the Five Rings (fifth edition) last night.

This game has really hit the sweet spot for this group with balance of player options, interesting choices, and settings of play.

We’re having a blast. On par with our grand Burning Wheel campaign.

🕊️ cool: intro to Matthew in the Anabaptist Commmunity Bible was written by my New Testament in Context seminary professor: Dorothy Jean Weaver.

The “information-action” ratio:

"most of our daily news is inert, consisting of information that gives us something to talk about but cannot lead to any meaningful action. This fact is the principal legacy of the telegraph: By generating an abundance of irrelevant information, it dramatically altered what may be called the __“information-action ratio.”__" (Neil Postman, Amusing Ourselves to Death)

🕊️ New Anabaptist Community Bibles are like…really tall and thin. Bold format choice.

🥃 We did a little pre-made egg nog blind taste test:

  • Christian Brothers Holiday Nog: good authentic taste, a little runny
  • Evan Williams Egg nog: super creamy, but flavor is just cream then alcohol bite
  • the two mixed together: nice blend, tastes the most like adding bourbon/brandy to egg nog

📚 Midnight Riot (Rivers of London #1) by Ben Aaronovitch

Recommended

Felt like Dresden Files: London Edition. Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (narrator) brought it to life, just like James Marsters has for Dresden.

📚 The Curse of Chalion (World of Five Gods #1) by Lois McMaster Bujold

Highly Recommended

This was refreshingly deep and original. Lloyd James was such a great narrator that I’m looking for other books narrated by him.
