"One of the few things that all Catholics, Lutherans, and Calvinists could agree on in church history was that Anabaptists were a threat and ought to be killed. Thousands died for their conviction that the church is called to more pressing business than to be socially significant, and thousands still die. We’re all state churches now who don’t appreciate anybody walking around loose who is under the impression that there is a king other than Caesar. Anabaptists continue to have the distinction of being among the few American Christians who can look at the United States of America and the body of Christ and tell the difference."
